Terezin

We booked this trip though Viator, something we had never done before. After a lovely breakfast at the hotel, we arrived at the meeting spot early and Ben had his first experience having to pay to use public restrooms.

The drive was about an hour, but the small bus was comfortable and the guide shared several stories on the ride. We started at the cemetery and then moved to the fortress itself. A different local guide provided our English tour of the prison, while our main guide took a small group of German visitors for their tour. The prison tour was very informative, yet of course, somber.

We had a chance to grab a quick lunch, which we had brought with us taking advantage of the breakfast buffet at the hotel. Then we boarded the bus and went to the school house museum to explore more. The museum was fantastically informative, again somber and very moving.

The ride home was much quieter, which we appreciated the guide giving the group time to reflect before returning to the city. The tour itself was well coordinated but we wish they would have had a no grumps policy!

What we learned         Many of the horrific pictures from Terezin are of the prison, not where Jewish families lived     Families still live in Terezin      Fortress tunnels were not made for tall people     Have change on hand for public restrooms
