Our dinner conversation at home is about what we learned that day. When we are traveling we make sure we keep a list of at least three things we learned throughout the day that we will make sure to remember. This is our version of a journal. Throughout the site we have included what we learned each day, below is a quick reference list. 

 

What We  Learned

Use Google Maps - it knows EVERYTHING

The hotels are very convenient 

If it  is sunny out, take lots of pictures

   Many of the horrific pictures from Terezin are of the prison not where Jewish families lived  

Number  2 pencil was invented in CZ

Wisconsin cheese curds are better

Families still live in Terezin

Fortress tunnels were not made for tall people

Uber is the way to go

CZ pilzner is better

Have change for pubic restrooms

Shoes should be completely flat when walking on cobblestone

Packing light means fabric too - easier to hang dry and weighs less

If you use something everyday just bring it and sacrifice something else

Packing cubes are your friend to keep organized

They serve so much food on international flights

If the airline  says you can make the connection you will make it

The 2002  floods covered the Charles Bridge

Trams do not stop for anyone

Dumplings are a gravy delivery device

Being able to take photos costs extra

Get down for breakfast early - get ready after you eat

Anne always regrets taking the stairs after step #5

Feet hurt way more from standing than walking

You should not buy 12oz of beer shampoo when you travel with a carry-on

You always  deserve ice cream

Some things are just too crowded to enjoy

Everything about Prague is charming

There are over 12,000  headstones and up to 12 layers in the cemetery

Lime leaves are a symbol of Prague

Art Deco and Art Nouveau are the same thing 

Use a rain jacket instead of an umbrella

Tide One Wash packets are great

Students always drive change

Don't be afraid to ask someone for help

Prague deserves a hug for everything it has been through

When you want to see sites in Budapest  head toward "Mexico"

It's much easier to know where you are going in Budapest

You can buy beer at McDonalds

Ben admitted he likes going to the Theater  (??)

Always take the seats out in the cold

When in doubt, add more cracklings

Bring a small tote bag for shopping

Might be worth it to bring some currency with you from the states - it was stressful not having cash for bathrooms

Hotel room picnics are the best

The original Bud is way better

If you go to the bathroom with your buddy,  the buddy system doesn't work

Always too much to see at opera houses in Europe

The fun side of the baths are SO fun

It's  small world - ran into a couple we met at the Prague Food Tour at the baths

Always eat local - upstairs at the Great Market Hall

Farewells are always sad

On the flight from Zurich to O'hare, you can watch The Zookeepers Wife, Lost World of Z, Kung Fu Panda, How to Train Your Dragon   and Pretty Woman landing just as Richard Gere is climbing the stairs to whisk  Julia Roberts away 

Being late can work out
